Essential oils and the brainwashed blogger!

I know what you’re thinking… another boring blog from a brainwashed blogger who drank the Kool-Aid on essential oils. But wait! Spend just 5 minutes of his time and an open mind, and I’ll convince him that essential oils are essential to his mental and emotional well-being, and not just the next big thing.

Essential oils have been around for centuries and have been mentioned by both the Jewish and Christian faiths. They were mainly used for their healing properties. Monks used oils known for their antibacterial properties during the Middle Ages to aid in the healing process. Doctors used them before the idea of traditional medicine as we know it. So now we know that oils are not a new idea… but which oils are good for healing? How do we use them? I’m glad you asked! Read on for a brief introduction to the healing power of oils. I am not listing any oil here that I have not personally tested and found to be true.

• mint

This oil can be used to help with constipation, nausea, and relieve gas. It also has a cooling effect, so it can effectively reduce fever. One of the most common ways that I use peppermint oil is for headaches.

• Lavender

I love lavender oil. Most people know this oil and its ability to help soothe and calm. Lavender oil helps you relax enough to fall asleep naturally. It also helps with burns and other skin irritations. Lavender also helps reduce stress and anxiety because it is so calming and calming.

• Lemon

This is known as a happy oil. Helps elevate your mood and combat mental fatigue. Lemon oil is also said to help with sleep. Lemon oil also helps with stomach problems like upset stomach or cramps.

*** Peppermint, lavender, and lemon oils can be combined and rubbed into the sinus cavities to relieve sinus headaches. This is probably the most common way I use these oils***

• helichrysum

This oil is known to be antifungal, antimicrobial, and a natural antibiotic. It is said to help with allergies, acne, wounds, infections, muscle and joint inflammation… the list goes on. This oil is a bit more expensive than the others, but it is definitely worth the price! I have used it mainly for skin problems. I got quite burned once taking something out of the oven, and I immediately put helichrysum oil on the burn and it immediately stopped hurting. I was never scared of that burn either. I have also used this oil in my skin care to help fight acne and wrinkles… I cannot say enough good things about this particular oil, believe me when I say it is worth every penny!

• Incense

Most people will recognize this oil from the Bible. This is another oil that helps promote skin healing, so it can be used on any scars you may have or with any skin blemishes. Every time I have a blemish of any kind I start putting on frankincense oil. I found that blemishes heal faster and don’t leave scars. Frankincense has also been found to reduce anxiety from anger and stress.

• Vetiver

This is tree sap so it is thick and smells like ‘wood’. One of the main ways I use vetiver oil is for sleep. You rub some vetiver oil and lavender oil on the soles of the feet; lavender helps you relax and fall asleep and vetiver helps you stay asleep. Vetiver is also another oil that helps with scars. Vetiver also helps with arthritis, gout, and muscle pain; although personally i have not used it for anything other than aiding sleep and reducing scarring.

This is just a brief introduction to some common oils that I use and feel like I can’t live without. The benefits and uses here only scratch the surface of each oil’s potential. I hope I was able to provide you with some evidence that oils are not just the latest fad, but that they have been around and have stood the test of time. If you’ve been on the fence, I encourage you to at least give them a try. I always recommend that people start with Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint because those three oils alone are so versatile.

Below is a link for some good quality, but still cheap oils that I use every day. Sometimes the price is not everything!
