Ron Wyatt’s Quest for the Ark of the Covenant

If you’ve never heard of Ron Wyatt, you’re probably aware of some of his discoveries of key locations and artifacts that took place in the Bible. Although some critics called him a liar, to his credit, the biblical “Indiana Jones” located the ruins of Sodom and Gomorrah, Noah’s Ark, the Egyptian chariots submerged in the Red Sea, evidence that God parted the sea crossed by Moses and the Israelites. and more recently the Ark of the Covenant.

Ron Wyatt visited Jerusalem in 1979. He and a member of the Israel Department of Antiquities were walking past the infamous stone outcrop known as “Skull Hill” where, according to many Protestant Christians, Jesus Christ was crucified. Wyatt’s left arm went up and pointed to a spot at the left base of the stone hill that had been littered with trash and said, “That’s Jeremiah’s Grotto and the Ark of the Covenant is there.”

His friend looked puzzled, then turned to Wyatt, who also seemed confused. Wyatt remembered that he didn’t understand why he had said that. He later recounted that God had spoken through him. When the antiquities officer heard what God had said through Wyatt, he invited him to dig on the spot.

Wyatt flew back to the United States and told his family about this strange occurrence. He studied the possibility that the Ark of the Covenant could be hidden under Skull Hill. The Ark of the Covenant was a structure made entirely of gold that God asked Moses to build. It was considered the seat that was the throne of God on earth. He sometimes hid in the makeshift temple when Moses led the Israelites in the desert for 40 years. Once a year, the blood of a “clean” animal was spilled on the right side of the “Mercy Seat”. This blood was to temporarily forgive the sins of the Israelite community. The Ark was considered so sacred that if anyone touched it, they would die. So the Ark had to be carried by a pole on each side so that it could be carried by holy men who carry it without touching it.

After some study, Wyatt and his two sons were curious to return to Jerusalem and obtain a permit to excavate where the old dump still stood. As they took out a large amount of trash, they dug down, with no luck finding an opening, moving to a spot about twenty feet to their right. As they dug, they discovered large square niches carved into the escarpment. Wyatt determined that the Romans used them to place signs behind crucified people, declaring their crimes against the Roman Empire. This could have been the site of Jesus’ crucifixion.

They returned to the original site and dug down and found a crevasse that later became a large hole that turned into a cliff, dropping about 40 feet. Wyatt and his children descended to the bottom. As they shined their flashlights, they noticed a tunnel to the right that led to a cistern where they also discovered ancient Roman pottery and coins dating back to 135 AD The family’s team also discovered human bones around a large hole. Wyatt believed that executions, specifically stonings, were carried out. After examining the area, he also found a stone block that covered a 20-inch hole in the ground. As he examined it, he noticed several other holes to the right and left a few meters behind the cover. Wyatt couldn’t help but think that these holes indicated where wooden posts were supported to crucify the worst criminals, because those niches they found to the right of him were above this area.

For the next two years, Wyatt and his sons traveled to and from Jerusalem, each time saving enough money to continue excavating the site. Unfortunately, they were unable to find any openings leading to other rooms or caves where the Roman artifacts had been found. Wyatt and his children dug through rock walls and eventually found some tunnels that led them down. Wyatt believed that the deeper they dug, they entered an earlier period of Jerusalem’s history. Still, Wyatt and his children were unable to find the Ark of the Covenant.

By the summer of 1982, Wyatt and his family were getting discouraged. They had almost run out of money and physical strength. Wyatt and her children got sick. Wyatt told them to go home while he continued digging, digging holes in the stone. He tunneled through a particular area where many stones had been moved, blocking a chamber. Although Wyatt had pneumonia, he crawled through a narrow gap at the top of the stones. Wyatt shined his flashlight up to the ceiling and saw an opening in the rock that was covered with a black liquid that had dripped into a shiny area that looked like gold. Before passing out from exhaustion, he realized exactly what he was seeing: Christ’s blood had flowed from the exact spot where he was crucified and spilled onto the Mercy Seat of the Ark. The only way blood could have been spilled on the Ark was the fact that when an earthquake tore the rocks apart, God created a crack in the stone that allowed the flow of blood from the cross to drop twenty feet to just above the side. Mercy left. Seat.

Wyatt returned to this place and removed the stones that prevented him from entering the chamber where he saw the Ark. As he crawled inside and shined his flashlight onto the rocks. he also saw other gold furnishings from the first temple that had been hidden from the Babylonians who sacked Jerusalem in 586 B.C. These objects had been covered by ancient fabrics that disintegrated when touched. They included: the table of breads, the 7-branched candlestick, the gold altar of incense, a gold sensor and a very large sword, which had belonged to Goliath, the giant who fought against David.

Wyatt had been allowed to take a blood sample from the Mercy Seat to a reliable laboratory in Israel. He met with the scientists and asked them to analyze the white blood cells for a chromosome count. Although the lab assistants told him it was impossible to get a “dead blood” count, Wyatt asked them to do it anyway and to have him present when they got information. As a result, the test results indicated that the person the blood came from only had 23 chromosomes, which was “impossible” as each living person carried 46 chromosomes, 23 from the mother and 23 from the father. Although the test concluded that all 23 chromosomes came from the mother, the father was “not human.”

This situation was impossible. The lab techs caused quite a commotion, asking Wyatt, “Whose blood is this?” Wyatt choked and told her, “It’s the blood of your Messiah… Jesus Christ.” Hearing this, the technicians were completely shocked, in disbelief, shouting in rapid Hebrew.

Wyatt claimed that when he returned to the room, he found four angels guarding the Altar of the Covenant. They raised the Mercy Seat and told Ron to bring out the two stone tablets that were the original Ten Commandments that God gave to Moses. The angels instructed him to record the two tablets so that one day they might be shown to the world in the future, but not now. In fact, he told his antiquities friend what he had found, but he was shocked when the officer told him to keep everything he discovered a secret. Wyatt didn’t stay quiet for long, he went to churches to tell pastors and entire congregations about his discovery, as well as spread the Gospel.

In 1999, on his deathbed, he confessed that everything he had discovered in Jerusalem was a true story.
