I wish I had a crystal ball

Many years ago in the 1980’s my 2 sons were crazy about Star Wars toys, both vehicles and models. I vaguely remember running through the stores in November and early December trying to find what they had ordered for Christmas. I seem to remember getting lucky at Tesco where I got some of the stuff. I was sorry to pay almost £15 for a Millenium Falcon and a similar price for a Winged Fighter, as I thought that was a lot of money at the time for what these things were: plastic bit toys, soon to be broken by boisterous children.

After a couple of years, they switched to another fashion, so the Star Wars toys were given to the charity shop. I wish I had a crystal ball back then and could see into the future as these toys have made a comeback in recent years and are now commanding very high prices if they are the original.

Taking a look on eBay today, you’ll see a Wing Fighter for $200 and Millennium Falcons for $100 or more. I wish I had thought to keep the toys my kids had in the attic to share with future generations, or to sell now, as I would have made a nice profit on some of them.

They also had a complete set of figures at one point, and now they sell for over $2000 for a good set.

I see that there is now a Millennium Falcon made out of Lego and it sells for $400. Some parents have a lot of money to spend on their children.

I wonder what the collectibles of the future will be and what we should keep safely stored for future generations.
