Television addiction: as serious as drug addiction

Excessive attachment to anything is a serious problem. People are addicted to different things: drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, cartoons, and computer games are just some of the things people become addicted to.

No one gave serious thought to television addiction until recently, when research found that the characteristic behavior of people addicted to drugs and television is the same. That is, people addicted to television show the same behavior patterns as people addicted to drugs.

Addiction Definition: The inability to overcome dependence on anything, despite serious efforts on one’s part, is an addiction. Severe withdrawal symptoms are another hallmark of addiction.

For example, someone who is addicted to drugs knows that he must break with drugs, he tries in that direction, but he cannot free himself from the influence of drugs.

Different studies carried out by universities in different parts of the world suggest strong parallels between television addiction and drug addiction.

The researchers studied the brain waves of people who were serious about abstinence from television.

The person experiences maximum pleasure while preparing to watch TV: he feels happy while taking the remote control and turning on the TV. Once the TV show is over, he or she returns to the previous state of mental tension and stress. He wants to get in front of the TV to feel at peace again.

This experience has strong parallels with drug addiction, where addicts feel disturbed when the drug stops working in their body and more drugs are injected into their blood.

This is not true for all viewers. People who watch television for more than four hours a day exhibit these behavior patterns and one tenth of all television viewers are unfortunately addicted to television.

Children under the age of 12 are especially vulnerable to the dangers of television addiction. They can forget everything about their studies and spend a lot of time in front of the television.

When parents try to minimize time spent prematurely, children protest, and in an unhealthy way. Self-harm and destruction are common.

Studies have also found that children enslaved by television mature early and feel powerless in the face of hardship.

Some things you can do to prevent television addiction

@ – Spend time doing physical activities, sports, walking, rock climbing, mountaineering, swimming, tree climbing, etc. according to the physical capacity of each one.

@ – Read books, including novels, short stories, poetry, science fiction stories, scientific journals, etc.

@ – Participate in indoor games such as chess, caroms, scrabble, board games, etc.

@ – Be active in a social service club (by far the best antidote to all stress-related problems).

All of the above activities are helpful in overcoming television addiction. Even though you feel exhausted, lethargic and tense after watching TV for a long time, these activities leave you feeling refreshed.
