DIR 655 – Should I upgrade to DIR 825 or DIR 665 to support iPad or touchpad?

The D Link DIR 655 is so popular with its Xtreme N technology, but with the new Apple iPad and HP touchpad so popular that they demand high-performance wireless networking for optimal data transfer speeds, should you upgrade to the newer DIR 665 or DIR 825 Xtreme N routers? Is there any reason to upgrade the router to the new generation of D-Link Xtreme N routers?

iPad and Touchpad are tablets that are so popular to help you do more of what you can do. They are originally designed for audio and video platforms that allow you to watch and stream HD videos/movies from the Internet, as well as platforms for other types of visual media, including books, music, games, and web content. Later, they are also designed to help your business with apps like Mail, Calendar, web browsers, and other business app features.

Both the iPad and the Touchpad are equipped with Wi-Fi and/or 3G to connect to the Internet. Before you can connect to your wireless home network with an Internet connection, you must have a wireless network environment. That means you need to create a wireless environment powered by a wireless router that supports maximum data rate performance for smooth HD media streaming, gaming, and browsing performance. With your current DIR 655 router, can it support Wi-Fi connections from your iPad and touchpad to perform at its best?

Before upgrading your current DIR 655 router or whatever your current router is, you should be aware of the iPad or Touchpad Wi-Fi specification. Both the iPad and the Touchpad are equipped with Wi-Fi that works with the 802.11a/b/g/n standards. This is a dual-band Wi-Fi that supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The 5GHz band is generally used to stream HD media for a clean network, as the 5GHz band generates relatively less interference than 2.4 GHz band. All wireless devices that are designed to support smooth and fast streaming and gaming typically support the 5 GHz band. Therefore, for maximum data rate performance, you should Connect iPad and touchpad to any wireless environment that supports dual-band.

D-Link DIR 655 does not support dual-band technology, but it can create a wireless environment that is compatible with the Wi-Fi connection of your iPad and Touchpad, but without the 5GHz band to reduce interference. What about DIR 665 or DIR 825?

The DIR 665 is a selectable dual-band router with three spatial data streams (N450 technology) offering speeds of up to 450 Mbps on each band. But remember, this is a selectable dual band, which means the router can operate on only one band at a time. To support the maximum data rate performance for your iPad and Touchpad, you need to select the router to work in the 5GHz band. And the other wireless clients that work in the 2.4GHz band cannot connect to the network unless you select the 5 GHz band.

The D-Link DIR 825 supports dual-band technology on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. The router is a dual-band N600 and offers speeds of up to 300 Mbps on each band of your wireless network. This is the ideal environment to support your iPad and Touchpad for smooth HD video streaming and gaming.

What about the performance of the DIR 665 and DIR 825 routers? Each of the individual users has different opinions. You can read their reviews on online stores like Amazon.
